Alexander McQueen : Savage Beauty

I guess it could be easy to get annoyed by the long lines outside (and inside) to visit the Alexander McQueen exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but then one realizes that the massive hordes of people are all there to celebrate the passion of a very special artist, and it becomes an easy pill to swallow.

The much applauded event of the summer lives up to all expectations - over 100 pieces from fashion shows covering the last 16 years, curated masterfully, with a focus on opulent visual impact that only enhances the innate skill sets and personal visions that McQueen masterfully brought to life.

The thoroughness of the exhibit was perhaps the most pleasing aspect, as it gave us an opportunity to see the artist as a visionary, and presented the vision in it’s entirety as opposed to a singular collection with a point of view. The viewer is able to see through specific flights of fancy and really capture who McQueen was as an artist, and what he as a designer had to say to the world. The man wanted to be heard, and was remarkably able to do so in such a small period of time - to make an impact, not only in the world of fashion, but also the world of art and pop culture.

He was an artisan in every sense of the word, and the kind of artist that influences other artists by creating a vision and seeing it through to its end in a stylistic manner that is truly one’s own. I, personally found it a humbling experience, and one that I was truly honored to be able to see in person and experience in such an emotionally charged, intimate and up close manner. I only wish that he was still with us to see our appreciation.

URBAN POETRYWe are very excited to be attending the Indigo print show in Paris in September, and excited to see the new exhibits they have in store - including this one titled Urban Poetry.
“At the fashion area at the heart of Indigo, “Urban Poetry” steps into the spotlight, with a display illustrating a City/Nature duality. A wild garden arises in the heart of the city, and poetry is born from the novel use of typically urban elements. Exhibitors’ patterns will be presented on the area’s by-now traditional Exhibitors’Wall, as well as on posters, display screens, and the signage in this back-to-nature city.”
